This makes me so cranky - I had a colleague hwo wa a Witness and he quit to go off and pioneer with his new JW wife and work three days a week. When I asked him why he would abvandon a well paid job to work part time in a low paid job and how could he raise a faimly in such circumstances he basically said he was following in his parents footsteps which surprise surprise involved living in council housing and milking the welfare system. This welfare dependence is core to the WBTS business model. Taxpayers subsidise the WBTS' free sales force through welfare. -

Have carts been abandoned in favour of old fashioned door-to-door witnessing?
by Frazzled UBM ini just noticed recently that the carts have gone from outside the local station and i have noticed witnesses on the streets going door to door again.
anyone else observed this?
have the r&f decided carts don't work?

"Brother Lett is like a big cuddly teddy bear!"
by purrpurr ini had this said to me the other day by a jw who is fully brain washed.
it gave me shivers to think is that really how the r&f perceive the gb?

Anyone seen Toy Story 3? The parallel to Lotso, the manipulative power hungry teddy bear that smelt of strawberries seems apt -

Congrats on your courage and intellectual honesty. I hope it is not as bleak as it seems - I can't help but feel your husband will come around. I was never a witness but my wife is a born-in who got reinstated and went very zealous on me for a while and it nearly destroyed our marriage but I showed her she was very important to me and that I was going to hang in there and she eventually stopped going and we are good now. It sounds like you love your husband and he loves you. It has clearly been a shock to him that you have learned TTATT and he is adjusting to that. Be patient with him and let him know you love him unconditionally and that you have no desire for a divorce. He is caught in a bind between his programming and his love for you. Keep letting him know how much you love him. Hang in there and good luck. Frazzled -

Article in Australian newspaper regarding jw shunning and charity
by umbertoecho inthis may have been posted before.
however, if you want to read the article about jw shunning and denial of this practice, then have a read.
there is mention of redefining "charity" in terms of how that operates.. http://www.smh.com.au/national/jehovahs-witnesses-a-cruel-cult-20130315-2g5x3.html.

Uk also needs to review the granting of charity status to the WBTS. As Senator Xenophon says - the tax payers are subsidising the cult and by implication the psychological abuse perpetrated by the cult. As for the lawyer saying shunning is a myth - he should be struck off for dishonesty. -

It is Hebrew - in Hebrew, like Arabic, words are written without short vowels and word patterns and common usage causes people to know what the short vowels are. The Jews viewed it as wrong to pronounce God's name so it wasn't in common usage - hence ambiguity about the vowels. Secondly the sounds in Hebrew consonants do not correspond exactly to English consonants so there is discretion in any translation about how certain Hebrew words are translated. So there is no 'correct' version of the Hebrew in English, which is why the whole WBTS preoccupation with the name of God is a joke. -

Where to go from here...
by Patrickday ini'm new around here, but i've been browsing the site the last few days in hopes of finding the answer to the situation i've been going through, so hopefully you can help me.
i met this girl in highschool, but never really spoke with her until about a year after i graduated.
she's three years younger (however it's legal where i'm from, don't fret) and still a teenager.

I doubt she will remain a Witness. She is only doing so to keep her father happy. She is very conflicted - hence her depression. You are an outlet for her. If you care for her I would suggest you be a sounding board for her. Let her know you are a friend she can trust - she can tell you whatever she wants - her fears, worries and concerns in particular and yuou will not judge her nor gtell anyone else. If you can do this without getting too emotional involved you will do her a tremendous service but if you start to get very emotionally involved before she has worked through her inner turmoil, then you could well end up in emotional turmoil yourself. If she does get through the otherside and abandons the religion in a healthy way, you may well have laid the groundwork for a strong relationship going forward. Good luck -

opening post then nothing - either a p*** take or quickly realised she was in the wrong place and ran away. If she is genuine - and this is not an uncommon phenomenon - she is heading for lifetime virginity status unless she gets to 32 or 33 and starts to look this reality in the face and realises she has been led down the garden path and wakes up to the fact that the talent pool outside 'the Lord' has a lot more to offer. -

Jehovah's Witnesses mentioned on BBC News site regarding not voting
by defender of truth injehovah's witnesses.
there are about 140,000 jehovah's witnesses in the uk who will choose not to vote on 7 may.. mark o'malley, a spokesman for the christian-based religious movement, said: "as you go through the bible we see that god's kingdom is already established in heaven with god as the king of that kingdom.. "we are politically neutral as, in a sense, we have already chosen to support that kingdom's government.
we see it as a real government.. "there are limitations to what governments can do, maybe they can improve the health system, but they can't prevent death, maybe they can help children, but they can't provide a secure future for them necessarily.

I liked this bit: "So you will see Jehovah's Witnesses are model citizens when it comes to paying taxes". They are also model citizens when it comes to using welfare. When a JW work associate left his reaonably remunerated job to witness two days a week and work part-time in unskilled low-paid work I pointed out to him that he would never be able to own his own home - he pointed out to me that this had not been a problem for his Witness parents. When pressed he explained that they had lived in subsidized council housing their entire adult lives and that he expected to do the same. I don't have a problem with welfare to support people who don't have the support themselves but this guy was smart and capable enough to earn enough to suppport himself and his family but chose not to do this (to be a salesmen for the org) and to rely on welfare instead. I guess that makes taxpayers the equivalent of Jehovah because he would believe that it is Jehovah who is providing.
